Omeprazole is a gastric proton pump inhibitors. This prodrug is a substituted benzimidazole derivative which acts on the final step of gastiric acid production and therefore controls acid secretion in response to all varieties of stimuli, omerprazole has prolonged action in a dose of 20-40 mg once a day and reduces the 24 hours gastric acid output by almost 90%. It is highly effective in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, recurrent duodenal ulcers & reflux oesophagitis. It also suppresses H-pylori. It should be taken before meals.
Composition :20mg
Indications :Duodenal & gastric ulcers, NSAIDs induced ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, reflux oesophagitis.
Contraindications :Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation, children.
Safety Profile :Exclude the gastric malignancy, renal & hepatic dysfunction, epilepsy.
Adverse Effects :Skin rashes, abdominal colic, diarrhoea, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, constipation & flatulence, increased risk of enteric infections due to reduced acid secretion.
Drug Interactions :phenytoin, warfarin, cyclosporine & digoxin.
